February 2010 State Convention

The 2010 State Convention of the Socialist Party of Massachusetts was held on Sunday, 28 February, beginning at 1 pm in the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) office in Cambridge
Socialists from across the state came together to discuss current events, initiative new local organizing projects, and prepare for a full calendar of upcoming activism, education and organization.

- The Economy: Government Budget Cuts, tuition hikes, and labor struggles

- Justice for Jason
- Socialism Today

- Campaigns
- Designate specific causes/movements for immediate action
- Define committees and/or work groups for campaigns
- Create action plans for each campaign
- Organizing New Locals:
- Pioneer Valley/Western Mass.
- Worcester/Central Mass.
- South Shore/Cape Cod
- North Shore/Lawrence/Lowell
- Constitution and governance
- Consolidating bank accounts and the process for approving expenditures
- The State Executive Committee (SEC) is currently composed of a Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Proposed by-laws would expand the State Executive Committee and clarify its members' duties.
- Consider forming a State Organizing Committee.
