Not a Dime More for War

John Olver refuses to listen to his constituents. The people of western Massachusetts are clear: we want all U.S. troops withdrawn from Iraq right now. The United States had no business invading Iraq, and we have no legitimate reason to remain.
The United States is in Iraq to secure the vast oil reserves for Exxon and the other major oil corporations. For too long, the lives of our young people have been sacrificed for the profits of the avaricious rich.
- No Blood for Oil
Recently Olver voted for a bill that would provide President Bush with another $100 billion dollars to continue the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. We insist that Olver listen to his constituents and vote against any bill that provides funds for these immoral and unjust wars.
Olver and his Democratic cronies in Congress try to justify their votes by claiming that their bill would eventually end the war. Time matters. The war must end now, not some time in the vague future. Furthermore, the Democratic bill is full of loopholes that would allow tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers to remain in Iraq after 2008 as advisors, and as part of counter-terrorism units. This is not a plan to end the war, but rather a devious scam to make the indefinite occupation of Iraq more palatable.
Olver refuses to justify his position in a public forum. We have repeatedly asked him to come to a forum on Iraq, and he has refused. We, the taxpayers of western Massachusetts, pay Olver a generous salary to represent us in Congress. We demand that he fulfill his job responsibilities and address us, his constituents, on the key issue of the day.
